Sport Leadership Workshop: Chhattisgarh

Date: 04/12/2017  To 06/12/2017

Venue: Raipur, Chhattisgarh

“We should keep the idea of winning and losing to one side, because we have gained a lot of things instead. We have played equally, boys and girls”.
Lalita Sahu, 16 year old female participant

Following the successful completion of Freedom to Play and Gender through Sports Workshop, Pro Sport Development conducted the next step of KBC, the Sports Leadership Workshop. They were supported by local partner, PRIA-Raipur.

The Sports Leadership workshop serves a dual purpose within the structure of KBC. While the workshop teaches the youth how to be effective sports trainers, its true purpose is to teach them transferable skills (such as leadership, planning and communication) that they can then use in their own initiatives (whether sport-based or non-sport-based) to combat violence against women and girls within their own communities.

There  were  many  strong  leadership  candidates  among  the  youth  and  the workshop proved to be a very enjoyable experience for them.  They talked about the joy of playing together, not worrying about what gender their teammates are from and also took back lessons in leadership and effective communication that they plan on employing within their community. They were also able to link the workshop to previous KBC activities and the overarching message of ending violence against women and girls.

49 people participated in the workshop (17 male and 32 female)
